Clara Scremini Gallery, solo exhibition 7 - 29 June 2019
This exhibition will consist of ceramic plates from a two- year long project Dressed in Pattern, that drew upon landscape, text & decorative motifs sourced from the Spode Museum Trust archive of engravings. The ceramics were derived from fragments of imagery found on the engravings. These were printed, scanned, deconstructed and refined through hand and digital drawing. A selection was subsequently used to produce digital and screen printed transfers which then served as a palette for collaging onto ready-made china ware. The intention to use existing industrial ware was implicit from the outset in order to reference the factory production of ceramics and its everyday use and function as opposed to the tradition of studio ceramics. The imagery evokes a sense of another world in which women pass through as if disinterested, captured wandering across the ware. In addition, a selection of papercuts and ceramics from Charlotte’s recent project, After the Taking of Tea, will be on show.
